Building Bee Peepers
Our last blog showed the steps in finishing a plant peeper and this blog is about assembling the parts needed to create a bumblebee peeper.
The photo on the right begins with the black bee body which then has yellow ribbons laid across the body with three stripes for each body. Next little white dots are added for the eyes. The final step is to move the bodies to the kiln and then carefully add the iridescent wings to each body. The wings have some pieces of fiber paper supporting them so that as the peeper fuses the wing will not sag and will stay on the plane above the body.
After an 18-hour fusing in the kiln, the bee peepers are then glued to a stainless steel straw and the straw can then be inserted in a plant, as explained in a previous blog.
