Butterfly Workshop at Riverside Collective

Riverside Collective in Saxapahaw, NC offers you the opportunity to browse, enjoy and purchase a wide variety of crafts created by local artisans.  Various artists are featured throughout the year, providing a rotating array of breath-taking and impressive crafts.

Recently, I had the opportunity to lead a workshop at Riverside where we created a mosaic butterfly suncatcher.  Each participant began with a clear 5” circle and using the provided pattern, the butterfly was outlined on the glass.  Then, each person’s creativity took over.  Provided with twelve different colors of transparent glass and a pair of tweezers, participants were free to use any or all colors and arrange them on the wings in the design that was uniquely their own.

After careful consideration of design and color, everyone completed their suncatchers. I collected the suncatchers and fused them in the kiln.  After fusing, a simple hanger was added.  We had six workshop participants and their completed suncatchers are shown here.
