Beadweaving

I have been reading about glass techniques and experimenting with new challenges, options and looks.  Beadweaving was a whole new concept to me and I tried it on this suncatcher.

First I created this green and orange stained glass sunburst on a clear disc.  Once this was soldered together, I selected some glass beads that would add extra color and sparkle.  In order to determine where the beads would go, I used a string to test the position the wire would take and where the beads should be placed.

Next, I selected some sturdy wire that would keep the beads where I wanted them placed and began stringing the beads.  Once all of the beads were on the wire, I began weaving the wire around and over the sunburst.  The second picture shows a side view of the sunburst which displays the 3D effect that the weaving gives the item.

I found that beadweaving was fun and creative, adding depth and texture without adding any substantial weight to the suncatcher.
