Yard Sign Progress

Several posts ago I mentioned that I was creating a stained glass house number sign for a friend.  I had to order the beveled numbers and there was a long delay in receiving them.  Now that I have all of the parts, I have begun work.

Progress on the sign begins with determining the size of the vertical sign and creating a pattern for the entire project, shown in the upper right photo.  The square photo below that shows how the project comes to life when the individual pieces of red and beige glass have been cut and ground to fit the pattern encompassing the beveled numbers.  The pieces are only roughly ground to make sure that shapes fit together.  Each piece still has the blue pattern number is still visible, so each piece needs to be cleaned and ground to a precise size.

The rectangular photo on the far left shows the result of cleaning, grinding and foiling each piece so that they can be soldered together.  The next step is to flat fill with solder on the front and back and then high bead with different solder on the front and back.

The final step will be to create the zinc frame to hold the house number since this is a custom stained glass piece.  I have some ideas about this and hopefully will be able to show the final project next week.
