Working With the Unexplained
In a recent blog I showed some items that I had in my workspace and did not know what they were for or at least I had never used them. I have begun to check into these items to see what new things I can learn.
I am in constant search of new items to create or ways to incorporate a new twist on an existing item that I make. This past week, I had an idea for a new pattern for a spoon rest and a revelation on how to fix a long-standing issue with an existing item I make, but rarely sell.
In creating my new pattern for the spoon rest, I decided to give the bottle of ‘No Days Liquid Fusing Adhesive’ (basically fancy glue) a try. Show here is my planning stage. The glue has a fine metal prong that specifically directs the flow of glue, which was very important since I wanted to glue down the thin glass stringers in a particular pattern so they would not move at all until they were fully fused.
The glue had been opened at some point and the container was extremely sticky. The metal prong to precisely distribute the glue was something less than precise as I worked with it. I did get things glued up and the spoon rest into the kiln to full fuse. Next, it needs to return to the kiln to be slumped into the spoon rest shape. So, next week, I can show the result.
