What’s In a Word?

Several years ago, we expanded our creative efforts to include doing mosaics on wood, not just using fused glass in our kiln.  All types of glass work in this medium – fusible and non-fusible, transparent and opaque, and glass tiles.  One of our first efforts exploring this option was using this pre-cut word ‘Beach’ and creating a mosaic that encompasses changes in coloration from the sand to the sea to the sky, while also including some items that might be fun memories of a beach trip.

A friend saw the ‘Beach’ mosaic and wanted the same plan applied to the word ‘Lake’ for someone who had a house on a lake, but no real beach.  It did take some time to find the word in a large enough size to handle our mosaic technique.  My friend supplied items that were personal to the recipient and needed to be incorporated into the mosaic.  Here is the completed ‘Lake’ which was enthusiastically received by the person who commissioned the piece.  The added benefit – other than pleasing the client – was that it was fun to do a project that was completely one-of-a-kind from start to finish.

If there is a particular item, color or design for an object that springs to mind for you and you want to know if we can create it, get in touch and we will see what we can do.  Contact us by emailing here or contact us on Facebook
