Recycling a Project

Framed mosaic sea creatures have been a staple of DarionGlass for several years.  We use transparent glass chips from larger projects to create the colorful random mosaic of a seahorse, turtle, sand dollar and starfish.  This is an excellent way to use small pieces of glass and a type of recycling.

Here is a framed turtle mosaic that a friend bought for a present.  Unfortunately, her dog ran into it before it was gifted and the glass broke, as shown above.  We talked and she brought the broken turtle back and traded it in for another one.

I took the broken turtle and cut it apart into pieces that could be put back together again to make a new turtle.  So with some creative cutting and grinding, I re-made the mosaic into a new mosaic shown on the left, as it is returned to the original frame with no broken parts.  The ultimate in recycling?  I am not sure about that, but it sure has a story to tell.
