Creativity - Part 2
Following up from our last blog about organically creating a new item, I selected an existing pattern and re-sized it for my new purpose. Once I knew the general size of the project, I selected some glass to use, and, of course, I selected blue since it is one of my favorite colors and I have a wide selection of blue in solids and patterns.
Next step is to cut the blue patterned glass to the pattern size and then to cut a piece of clear glass by the pattern to ready the item for the kiln, as shown in the picture above. I then added a rim of black frit right at the edge. I put these two layers together in the kiln for a full fuse.
I had decided on the size I wanted for my project, but didn’t have a curved mold that was open enough, so I decided to use the outside of an existing mold. I needed to kiln wash the mold, shown at the left, so that the glass wouldn’t stick and then I was ready to return my full-fused blue project to the kiln to have it slump and conform to the shape of my re-purposed mold to see how my wild idea worked.
Next week, I will open the kiln to reveal the completed project – a surprise for you and for me!
If you have an idea about where this project is going, contact us by emailing here or contact us on Facebook. DarionGlass will be showing at the Fellowship Presbyterian Church Artisan Bazaar on Nov 10 and 11. We hope to see you there!
