A Weighty Subject

On a whim I purchased some rectangular paperweight frames that I found as I perused a local creative reuse center.  They were made of glass, so I thought that surely I could use them somehow.

After cleaning them up and removing the previous items displayed under the frame, I measured for the size of the insert and fused a variety of choices, shown here - white stars on a dark background, a shell on a white background, and arrowheads on an earthly background.   My first try is not shown, as I learned from the prototype, that the fused glass had a very definite limit on how thick it could be and still be an insert.  My first try was too thick for the paperweight, so it is now resting in my ‘what can I do with this’ pile.

Each paperweight is indeed weighty and has a green felt backing so that the insert in completely protected.  This was a fun project, but probably not one that I will re-create – unless I find more exciting options at the reuse store!

We enjoy making items that represent special times or special people.  If you want a special item, contact us by emailing here or contact us on Facebook.  DarionGlass will be popping up at some other local events this fall and dates will be posted soon.
