Pretty as a Peacock

Plant peepers have been featured before, and here is the inside look at how the peacock peeper comes together.

Once the glass pieces for the fantastic feather display and the body are cut and ground, they come to the table for a little special work, as shown here.  The feathering process is so delicate, that at least for me, it would be hard to complete in glass, so I use a glass paint that is permanent once fired in the kiln.  To get the curve and movement, I use a calligraphy pen dipped in the thinned paint.  Once the paint is dry, a millefiori circle is added at the tip of each feather.

After the circles are positioned, the body, head and eye complete the peacock and it heads to the kiln for about 18 hours of fusing.

Out of the kiln, the peacock is placed on the stainless steel straw, and this peacock is ready to brighten up any plant, as shown on the left.
