Make a Mosaic

Happy New Year to all!  It’s so hard to believe that it is 2024!

Since the year is a collection of months, weeks, and days, I thought a mosaic was a perfect example and metaphor for this new year.  I currently use my mosaic technique to make a collection of sea creatures – seahorse, sand dollar, turtle and starfish - which are perfect for those who love to be reminded of the beach.

Each of these mosaics is unique because I in no way try to re-create the colors or exact look of any previous piece.  As I create each sea creature I pick the colored glass to use a variety of colors and spread each color uniformly through the art.

To explain the process, I created a short video (that I hope works for you!) to detail the steps from beginning to end, which are:

  1. Collect the transparent glass from all projects
  2. Snip the glass into smaller pieces in a variety of shapes and sizes
  3. Organize the glass by color for easy use
  4. Select the glass to create the shape/creature and put in place on a clear background
  5. Fuse the completely shaped mosaic glass piece so that some texture remains
  6. Insert the finished fused piece in a frame and it's ready for your home!
