Glass Bubbles
Fused glass can be created in many unique ways. The most common way and the one most people expect is for one piece of glass to be laid on top of another piece of glass the exact same size and then fused, creating a uniform, even thickness Additional decorative glass can be added on top to create texture, as shown on the incense holder on the right in this picture.
Another option is to take those same two pieces of glass and sandwich the additional decorative glass between the layers, rather than on top. Because of the uneven thickness in the middle, as the glass melts together, air gets trapped between the layers. This happens randomly and unevenly, creating bubbles. These bubbles are trapped beneath a full layer of glass and will not collapse or break, but also provide an uneven texture, as shown in this close up of the incense holder on the left. The bubbles are not a flaw, but rather an unexpected highlight.
