The end result of having a small vase with flowers, starts out with lots of components as shown here. First there is the clear base that is the approximate size of the finished vase, allowing a little for shrinkage. Then each of the flower petals needs to be cut and ground from the rectangles laid out to form four different blue flowers in the upper left. The long green stringers need to be broken into pieces to form the flower stems and tall blades of grass as shown in the upper right. Next, the small pieces of green that are the ground cover need to be made by pulverising small scraps of various shades of green glass in the container in the upper left photo.
The flowers, stems and grass are positioned on the clear glass β leaving a clear space at the bottom so that the vase sits flat - and fused in the kiln. Lastly, the flat fused piece is returned to the kiln to slump and form the shape of the vase. Voila and the vase is complete in the bottom photo!
