Christmas is Almost Here

As the holiday approaches and everyone is bringing out boxed decorations, I had a friend contact me about a problem with an angel she had purchased.  Somehow in storage, this poor angel had lost her wings and flattened her body, as shown here.

I got the angel and took her in for wing re-attachment surgery.  The operation involved removing the existing foil around the wing, and cleaning the solder from the point of attachment.  Then the wing needed to be re-foiled before attachment.  The angel’s body had also been flattened so that she was no longer 3D and couldn’t stand up.

First, I removed the old foil from the wings and re-foiled them.  Next, I had to warm the solder on the angel so that I could re-create the slight acute angle needed for her sides to help her stand.  Then, I re-attached the wings on her back with solder.  After the solder cooled, the entire angel was cleaned to remove the flux and then polished to prevent white mold on the solder.  Here is the completely updated angel, sitting on a window sill and ready to return home.
